Art L. Swanson
Chairman of the Board
Mr. Swanson began his career in the oil and gas industry in 1983 as assistant to Ran Ricks, president of Ricks Exploration Company, an independent oil and gas exploration company headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Prior to Ricks he had gained experience in the fields of finance and accounting as an employee at Haskins and Sells, now Deloitte. In 1986, he was named President of Ricks, and in 1990 he became the Chief Executive Officer and majority shareholder. During his tenure, the Company experienced significant growth and financial success. The company owned interests in over 3,500 wells in six states and Canada, and operated over 750 wells. During this time, the equity value of the company increased substantially, and in 2002 the company was sold to Concho Oil and Gas.
In addition to his experience in oil and gas exploration, Mr. Swanson founded a natural gas marketing company in 1984 that generated over $350 million in annual sales. In 1989, Mr. Swanson also co-founded a natural gas compressor company with patented technology. This company soon grew to have a large fleet of rental compressors, and the company was eventually sold.
During the time that he was the Chief Executive Officer of Ricks, Mr. Swanson individually participated in several hundred oil and gas wells drilled by Ricks and other oil and gas companies through an independently held entity, Cardinal River Energy Company. After the sale of the Ricks assets to Concho Oil and Gas in 2002, Mr. Swanson continued to serve as President and Director of Cardinal River Energy until 2006. In late 2006, Cardinal River Energy formed a strategic partnership with several privately held Oklahoma City based energy companies. Mr. Swanson is a licensed certified public accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from the University of Oklahoma along with having completed the Harvard Owner/President Management Program.
